FAQs
Is my information private?
Privacy has been designed into the MHAI process from the beginning.
Your identifying information is kept separate from the mental health information submitted for specialist review. You are given a unique MHAI reference, and our preparation guide explains how to remove identifying information before uploading your material.
Your information is uploaded through our secure platform and handled in accordance with our data protection procedures.
How much information do you need?
Potentially, the more useful history you can provide, the better.
One of the advantages of using AI is its ability to organise large amounts of conversation into a structured summary. That means information gathered over weeks or months can be reviewed far more efficiently than asking you to remember everything during a first appointment.
You don’t need to decide what is important. Our prompts are designed to help extract the information that matters.
What information will my AI prepare?
Depending on your conversations, your prepared information may include:
- Your main concerns and questions
- Relevant symptoms and experiences
- How things have changed over time
- Important events or circumstances
- Recurring themes in your conversations
- Things you have already tried
- Advice or explanations your AI has previously given
- Your reactions to that advice
- Ideas or possible explanations you have explored
- Areas of uncertainty
- Questions that remain unanswered
The objective is not simply to produce a transcript. It is to turn your existing conversations into a useful mental health briefing.
Who reviews my information?
Your information is reviewed by a qualified and experienced mental health professional.
MHAI vets the professionals we work with and, where appropriate, seeks specialists with experience in particular areas such as anxiety, OCD, trauma, grief and other mental health concerns.
The purpose of the human review is not simply to repeat what your AI has told you. It is to question it, interpret it, identify what may be missing and help determine what you should do next.
Is this therapy?
No. Your initial MHAI review is designed to help you make sense of the information you already have and consider appropriate next steps.
Those next steps might include therapy, further assessment, speaking to your GP, specialist treatment, practical changes, further investigation or simply having a clearer understanding of your options.
Do I have to continue with MHAI afterwards?
No.
Your report is yours. You can use it to help make your own decisions or take it to another professional.
If you want further help, MHAI may also be able to help you find, evaluate and access appropriate professional support.
What if I need urgent mental health support?
MHAI is not an emergency or crisis service.
If you believe you or somebody else is at immediate risk, you should use the appropriate emergency or urgent mental health service rather than waiting for an MHAI review.
